Tool from Autodesk

New Free Tool from Autodesk Labs for Download!

The wonderful chaps at Autodesk Labs have created a much wished-for tool called the Hierarchy Clone. This allows copying and renaming (prefix or suffix only) of IAM, DWG or IDW files, along with any referenced files. It also provides options for referenced files located outside of the source folder. This provides a useful alternative to the dated Design Assistant tool for anyone who is not using Vault (the copy and rename feature in Vault takes care of this with panache), and the existing iLogic Design Copy function in Inventor 2012. One real benefit over the iLogic Design Copy tool is the ability to run the copy operation (which can be time-consuming for large assemblies) outside of Inventor so that you can carry on working and not skip a beat. (for information on how to do this, see the readme that comes with the download. You can download the tool here:

Let us know what you think of it. I’ve tried it out on my computer and it works like a dream.
